The Ranch
|
Our little piece of the Texas Hill Country is 83
Acres. It is about 50 acres of flat open field with Ashe
Juniper and Live Oak wind breaks. It is on the top of a mesa.
The picture below is our view looking at a mesa that is just
like ours. Almost
30 acres is both sides of a valley. It has a wide variety of
oaks and native
Texas trees. The bottom of the valley is worth the steep
hike. It has some great ancient rock formations that
hold water weeks after a rain. We also have a 6.5 acre spring fed creek
at the bottom of a 300' cliff. It is over a hundred feet
wide and over 15 feet deep and 1/2 mile long. We have 3
acres of private beach for swimming and picnicking. It
is also a great place to bird watch all times of the year.

At Aguila Vista we are very proud
of the natural beauty that surrounds us everyday. We
try to share it in as many way as possible. Below are
a few of our "sights to see"
White Button Cactus
H
The rock grotto at the bottom of the valley.

You can see places in the rocks where people have worn out
places for foot and hand holds for a very long time.

Here is a picture of what we call
"The Lagoon", yes we grew up
with those crazy castaways too. Underneath all those trees are three
acres of park with 800 feet of creek front on the Johnson
Fork Creek. The creek flows on to the Llano river. Wade in on our smooth natural gravel beach, or
swim a mile of laps in deeper water. Or just lay on the beach and look over at the 250 foot
limestone cliffs and see if you can make
out the Indian Chiefs faces in the cliffs

You can sit on our beach and watch the Golden Eagles and Red
Tail Hawks float on the currents along the 300ft tall cliffs.
Or take a paddle boat up the creek and float back. Most
places in the creek are deep enough to swim some places 15+ feet
deep. The shallow water runs cool and quick and is
wonderful to lounge on the rocks or sit on the beach. The
creek bottom
is gravel and it is not muddy. It is mostly
river gravel and some large rocks and boulders from the cliffs.
We do ask our guests to be EXTRA careful. It is not a
swimming pool. This is a Texas natural creek that feeds
the Llano River. In a rain in the watershed it can rise
VERY rapidly. Fortunately or not it doesn't rain much out
here. That does make for a wonderful dry climate. We
have hot dry days and cool dry nights most of the spring and
summer. Fall days are sunny and cool nights cold and clear.
Great Stars! Check our our
CLEAR
SKY MAP to see what sky watching conditions are.
Be Aware. The creek is 2 miles from you cabin down
hill. All but the strongest will want to drive. You
can drive right onto the creek property from the county road.
What should I bring for outdoor
activities?
Sunscreen, A wide brim hat, sun glasses and cool clothes.
We usually have a 5-10 mph wind and humidity is very low.
If you are going to hike you will need blue jeans and
boots. If you stay on our roads tennis shoes will be
fine but you will want to walk around our 80 acres. If
you do please, bring heavy shoes. Cactus is beautiful
but it can ruin a vacation. At the water bring lots of
sun screen or sit under one of our shade trees. Water
shoes or old tennis shoes make walking around the creek more
comfortable. You will also need your own towels for
swimming.
